Summary/Objective: The Counter Salesperson is responsible for providing customers with outstanding customer service, which includes Point-of-Sale in-person, phone, and email sales communication. You must be knowledgeable about lumber building materials and hardware accessories. This role needs to be able to follow the manager's directions and complete tasks as requested. 

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to learn about our products and keep up to date with new products.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as well as multitask.
  • Assists clients with finding the best products that suit their needs.
  • Provides quotes and processes orders in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Proof, process, and accurately enter orders and quotes into our system.
  • Accurately process sales orders generated at the counter.
  • Process Cash sale returns and refund paperwork.
  • Arranges for return and credit of defective product.
  • Monitor inventory to maintain appropriate product inventory levels.
  • Ensure that store displays are categorized properly
  • Follow up on missing or delayed shipments.
  • Balance cash registers 
  • Adheres to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Maintains the counter area's cleanliness and ensures merchandise displays remain stocked and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Assist with Customers in the yard as needed.

Competencies:   

Proven counter sales/customer support experience; reliable transportation; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent negotiation skills; proactive planning and time management skills required. Working knowledge of construction industry product knowledge and home building requirements. Highly self-motivated and positive attitude.

Required Education and Experience 

 

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of inside sales experience required.
  • Knowledgeable of brands such as Marvin and Anderson.
  • Technical and computer skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and multitask.
  • Exceptional follow-up skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and organizational skills are essential.
  • Strong administrative, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint measurements

 

Preferred Experience: 

  • Experience in lumber or construction industry preferred
  • Two years of industry-relevant experience
  •  Bilingual Spanish/English

 

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Physical demands include lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling, and walking, 
  • The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • While performing this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving forklifts, noise, vibration, and extreme weather conditions. 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

 This is a full-time position. Work schedule varies and requires employees to work most Saturdays and is responsible for occasionally closing the store.  Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
