Responsibilities: To oversee the planning of recreational and outdoor activities for the students in our program to participate in during their daily recreation period. We hope to develop the students spiritually, emotionally, and physically. This period allows the student to learn proper exercise techniques and experience the benefits of the outdoors and exercise. Monday - Friday the students are in school and spend 1.5-2 hours in your class with 30 minutes to change and get ready for school or the end of the day. As a Christ centered program, we see every moment as an opportunity to disciple or mentor these young men. this as a time to disciple these young men by teaching them self-discipline & leadership principles. Every moment on shift is a time to exemplify the nature of Christ and to build relationships with this young men in need of life change. This job is a daily adventure, helping young men grow and teaching them exercise, sports, and out door activities, such as fishing, camping, hiking and biking. We have 200 acres of private land to have activities, as well as surrounded by beautiful areas to explore! You will assist and direct staff in the recreational aspect of their duties, training them to coach students and maintain and active role in all activities. To provide oversight of the student body during shift and to ensure the schedule is properly maintained. You will primarily be part of the school team during the weekdays and will have one weekend shift to develop rec time there.
Job Duties:
Recreation
To create and maintain an up-to-date monthly recreational schedule
To ensure that all recreational activities are done with intentionality and that discipleship and leadership training are happening consistently.
To train staff in the proper management of recreational times and to coach them in how to create discipleship opportunities and to maintain student engagement and participation.
To schedule monthly campus wide recreational activities or competitions to engage students.
To continually be refining the recreation program to keep things fresh and engaging.
To maintain a positive spiritual focus and environment during recreational programming.
To think outside of the box, creating outdoor adventures for these young men, as well as daily discipline routines.
To oversee discipleship curriculum study hall before or after recreation time.
Direct Care
Daily Management of Students & Facility
Ensure facility is maintained properly
Oversee students during the different aspects of their day during shift: wake up/lights out, work detail, chores, meal times, worship/devotion/chapel, recreation, discipline, fundraising.
Meeting/Planning & Leadership Mentoring/Communication
Participate in bi-weekly staff meetings, special training events, CPR/First Aid, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)/Physical restraint training.
Communicate with key OTC leadership: Executive Director, Program Manager, Program Dean School Administrator, Discipleship Manager.
Communicate & keep strong relationships, seek direction from leaders & be a liaison between students & staff.
Discipleship & Academics
Oversight of PSNC or other discipleship courses that occur during shift, to maintain a healthy learning atmosphere (outlined in Support Staff Discipleship Roles & Responsibilities Doc)
Act as a phase GSNC facilitator if needed(responsibilities outlined in Phase Facilitator Discipleship Roles & Responsibilities document.)
Assist the Discipleship Manager in students’ progress.
Spend time getting to know students, let them know you care so you can mentor, counsel & provide biblical guidance.
Assist if needed in Ozarks Boys Academy, tutoring & oversight of school during your shift.
Skills & Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
1-2 years classroom, ministry, recreation experience preferred
Experience working with or ministering to teens, troubled youth, or those struggling with addiction is desired.
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Basic skills utilizing computers. (Ozarks TC will provide some training as well)
Ability to work and communicate well within a team environment
Ability to provide ideas and feedback to the executive team regarding the future of Recreational Program
