Job description

Summary

Performs assigned general labor duties on the production floor of a corrugated box manufacturer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Feeds corrugated product into machine steadily at the highest production rate possible.

Stacks finished corrugated product in different stacking patterns for shipment.

Performs general clean-up in and around the work area including sweeping, sorting of corrugated product for recycling, and water-flushing ink wells.

Flexibility to perform work on a variety of corrugate production jobs.

Commitment and practice of applying and following all safety guidelines.

Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner or involves appropriate people in the decision-making process.

Meets productivity standards; Completes work in a timely manner; Strives to increase productivity; Works quickly and efficiently.

Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related work experience would be in the corrugated industry and/or paper industry.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret simple instructions, and documents such as safety rules, work orders, quality checklists, and production reports. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, and other employees of the organization. Ability to speak and communicate effectively with the work crew.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to recognize and report production mechanical problems involving machine setup and operation.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to input work hours in time/attendance systems and record production in production software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, carry, or push/pull. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, dust, as well as, printing ink solutions and cleaning solutions. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is such that personal hearing protection is required.
