Job description

Join Our Veterinary Team!

Position Overview:

Are you a dedicated and compassionate veterinary technician or assistant looking for a rewarding and fulfilling career? Look no further! We are seeking motivated veterinary support staff to join our passionate team and help us fulfill our mission of providing a stress-free, fear-free, and more holistic veterinary experience.

We are currently a one doctor practice, and see approximately 10-15 small animal patients per day so we have a more relaxed practice environment. Our clinic setting is very unique!

Our clinic culture places high value on work/life balance. This means that you can anticipate typical work day hours (830am – 5 pm), no swing or evening shifts, and no weekend hours.

Location:

Tally Oaks Veterinary Wellness Center is located four miles south of Purcellville in Loudoun County, Virginia. We are located in a rural area and our clinic is the focal point of a beautiful horse property which has been converted into a small animal clinic.

About Us:

Our goal is to treat pets, pet owners and veterinary team members with compassion and respect. We are committed to a more holistic approach to veterinary medicine and practice both eastern and western veterinary medicine. Our practice culture is based on prevention of illness and disease and holistic healing in addition to traditional veterinary principles.

We perform routine wellness and non-routine/sick visits as well as surgeries and dental procedures on dogs, cats and occasional small ruminants and horses. We also work with two traveling board-certified surgeons who perform orthopedic surgeries in our clinic.

Tally Oaks strongly believes in complementary medicine and offers acupuncture, massage, essential oils, laser, pulsed electromagnetic therapy and more. We also believe that proper nutrition is the key to optimal health and educate our clients on how to achieve optimal nutrition for their pets.

We are not a sales-oriented practice and do not pressure our clients to purchase services or products. We place a strong emphasis on the education of our clients and our team members are expected to enjoy educating our pet owners.

What Makes Us Unique?

Quality not Quantity: We believe in quality not quantity, with fewer appointments and more pet and pet owner interaction. Appointments are scheduled to provide time for engaging and educating our pet owners and to allow for utilization of our fear-free training practices. This allows for a more productive and enjoyable workplace. We encourage you to read our Google reviews which reflect this.

Transparency: We believe that pet owners should be in the office with their pets at all wellness visits. This transparency puts clients at ease and makes them an integral part of their pet care.

Unique, Tranquil Setting: Our clinic is located on a beautiful, serene horse property and integrated into a barn. Pets immediately feel more at ease entering a clinic with wide open doors and the aroma of essential oils and the country. There is no large, crowded and loud waiting area. Pets have their own private waiting rooms and pet owners can choose to walk around the expansive property and utilize our fenced in areas. We strive to make our atmosphere a healing oasis rather than an intimidating hospital.

Responsibilities: Technicians and assistants are responsible for handling the animals for examinations, phlebotomy, administering medications and treatments as directed, surgery set up and break down, sterilization of instruments. All support staff assist in answering the phone, scheduling appointments, financial transactions, as well as educating clients on proper animal care and post-procedure instructions, maintaining accurate medical records and documentation and most importantly providing exceptional patient care and comfort. Licensed technicians have the added responsibilities of IV catheter placement, handling/administering controlled drugs, administering/monitoring/recovery of general anesthesia, interpreting in-house laboratory samples (fecal, urine, cytology), etc.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a veterinary technician program preferred
- Certification as a veterinary technician is a plus
- Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital is highly desired
- Knowledge of animal behavior, health, and nutrition
- Proficiency in performing routine veterinary procedures such as vaccinations, blood draws, and dental cleanings
- Familiarity with X-ray equipment and techniques for capturing high-quality images
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members
- Ability to handle animals with care and compassion
- Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and manage multiple tasks

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly rate or salary depending on experience and licensure
  • Opportunities for professional growth and continuing education
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Employee pet discount program
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Desirable work/life balance
