Cook description:
Cook for between 14-18 senior residents. The cook is responsible for all phases of the meal, including food preparation, cooking of the food and cleaning of the kitchen during and after the meal. The day includes three meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus an afternoon snack. The meal to be prepared will be per a 5-week rotating menu plus preparing some other meals due to food preferences, medical needs and allergies, including pureed food meals. You will be trained on anything that you need. In addition, you will be in charge of preparing a weekly food order (but not purchasing), management of inventory to avoid waste and storing food when the order arrives. We basically function as a kitchen for a large family.
Time required: Shifts are 10 hours plus one 30-minute meal break or 7:30 am to 6 pm. You are paid 8 hours regular and 2 hours overtime. You have 4 shifts per week, of which one day is Saturday or Sunday. Hence, this might be Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday, or any combination of days which include both Saturday and Sunday (example Thursday through Sunday). You are expected to work on holidays which fall on your normal work schedule. Reports to Facility Administrator, who has a cooking degree.
Pay Rate: Minimum wage ($17/hour) to $22/hour depending on experience, plus overtime
Required to work: You will be required to pass a fingerprint clearance as directed by the state, for which we pay and must be completed prior to starting work and a health screening during the first week of work and which again we pay.
Qualifications:
1. Food preparation training and experience (a degree serves for this training and experience)
2. Safe Serve qualification (may be done upon hire – we will pay once you are offered the position)
3. Attention to detail!
4. Ability to listen and communicate effectively
5. Familiarity with kitchen methods, equipment and utensils
6. Ability to manage time, including showing up on time
