Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, located in Hampstead, North Carolina, is searching for an organist/pianist to direct the music at its 10am Sunday service. Holy Trinity is a small to medium parish known for its warm, welcoming character and giving heart. It has an aging congregation whose music ministry is a significant part of its Sunday worship. This is a part-time position and reports to the Rector.
The parish is seeking a qualified choirmaster who will select the congregational music, in consultation with the Rector, as well as build up the small but loyal volunteer choir to lead the congregation in hymns and produce a choir-sung anthem each Sunday morning. Choir rehearsals are generally held one weekday evening, as well as a brief run-through Sunday morning prior to service. The choir does not generally sing during the summer.
Experience with sacred music, Episcopal liturgy and music is preferred, as well as excellent organ skills, and proficiency on the piano. A good command of choral literature with experience directing a choir while also playing organ/piano is a plus. The applicant must be able to plan, schedule, budget and coordinate the music and music activities of this small but vibrant church and maintain a music library.
Holy Trinity has a small five-rank, two-manual “Greenwood-Nelms” pipe organ built in 1972 and a Yamaha baby grand piano. The church does not currently have an established Handbell Choir; however, it does possess a two-octave set of handbells which may be used if a Handbell Choir is organized. The Hymnal 1982 has been a primary source for worship music at Holy Trinity, as well as selections from Lift Every Voice and Sing and Worship, Love and Praise.
