PROCESSING ASSISTANT – Redwood City, CA
Position Summary
The Winthrop Group an opening for a full-time Processing Assistant to aid in the arrangement and description of a large volume of Stanford University’s Special Collections and University Archives as part of a team. Approximately 6,000 linear feet (98 collections) are to be minimally processed and prepared for a move. This position is for a three-year contract.
Key Responsibilities
• Moving and staging archival materials
• Creating box lists and box-level descriptions
• Re-housing materials into appropriate containers
• Labeling and barcoding boxes
• Assisting with processing activities as directed by processing archivists
Required Qualifications
• Work history in collections care, museums, libraries, or archives
• Demonstrated knowledge of archival best practices
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment
• Demonstrated written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
• Well-organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to accurately follow procedural guidelines
• Ability to climb ladders and lift and carry up to 40 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Library and Information Science
• Familiarity with SirsiDynix catalog systems
• Experience working with restricted collections
• Reading knowledge of Spanish
Compensation
Annual salary: $46,000 to 50,000 with strong benefits package. All full-time Winthrop employees receive paid time off and annual funds for professional development.
Work Environment
The work will take place at the Stanford campus in Redwood City, California. Winthrop employees will be expected to abide by all COVID-19 guidelines in place at the worksite, including providing proof of vaccination if necessary.
