Director of Youth Ministry
Reporting Relationship: The Director of Youth Ministry reports directly to the pastors and is accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Job Definition: A Youth Minister is responsible for guiding children (from 6 grade) and adolescents in their understanding of themselves and their faith. Their duties include organizing youth events and retreats to encourage community building, teaching Sunday school and other educational programs, and communicating with church staff about faith education needs. Responsible for continued development and implementation of programs and initiatives that support and foster youth's mental, emotional, and spiritual growth in our congregation and community.
Weekly Expectations: Sunday worship service and Wednesday at WNL, a few activities throughout the year that may involve some Saturdays.
Primary Strengths: Relationship building; Organization; Communication; Spiritual Formation.
Essential Functions: The role of this position is to provide expertise as a youth leader.
• He/she will be present and visible in the worshiping community of BUMC on Sunday mornings, and WNL
• He/she is expected to facilitate and lead a regular youth program for BUMC.
• He/she shall lead the program by providing events, services, classes, meetings, and various other activities including but not limited to the following:
- Occasional Youth field trips that may be recreational, educational, and/or service oriented.
- At least one (1) weekly youth meeting, worship service, or Christian curricular program, which shall serve to nurture all youth members of BUMC and any visiting or partnering youth in attendance in their Christian development by providing an evangelistic mission of BUMC.
- Attract new youth members and their families.
- He/she is expected to provide fellowship events and programming.
-He/she is expected to utilize age-appropriate theological classes and discussions in which the youth of the program will have an opportunity to grow in their knowledge of the Scripture, its doctrines, beliefs, principles, and traditions of the United Methodist Church.
• Recruit and coordinate adult volunteers for the youth program, ensuring compliance with Safe Sanctuaries child protection policies.
• He/she is expected to serve on a team of church staff working collaboratively and attend bi-weekly staff meetings.

• A committed follower of Jesus with a willingness to grow in faith and knowledge to enhance themselves personally and professionally.
• An understanding of and appreciation for United Methodist/Wesleyan theology.
• An inclusive spirit aligned with BUMC’s welcoming ministry that recognizes the worth of all persons.
• A high school diploma and an undergraduate degree in ministry and/or education-related fields.
