The Open Door Learning Center (ODLC) is a new and creative learning campus for children ages 2-7 years. We are a caring, educational community, founded in coordination with The Arc of Loudoun. ODLC’s mission is focused on improving preschool services throughout Loudoun County and kindergarten readiness. We understand that meaningful instruction given by exceptional teachers is the key to a child’s success. For our teachers, a child’s education should be their passion. Our dedication to the children in our care differentiates the ODLC experience from that of any other program.
The primary responsibility of this role is teaching a class of children in a manner consistent with the philosophy and goals of the center include but are not limited to:
Treat each child with dignity and respect.
Know and support the philosophy and goals set forth by ODLC and The Arc of Loudoun.
Understand and execute regulations, policies and procedures and the Standards governed by ODLC, the Arc of Loudoun, and the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Recognize, consider, and respond appropriately to the individual needs of each child in relation to cultural and socio-economic background, disabilities, special talents and interests, style and pace of learning.
Plan and execute appropriate early childhood development activities and crafts, which will encourage each child’s growth in the areas of emotional, social, cognitive and physical development.
Follow the curriculum guidelines in place.
Have curriculum materials for lesson plans complete one week in advance.
Help children learn to think creatively, to solve problems independently, and to respect themselves and others.
Ensure the safety of the children at all times.
Work with parents to promote cooperation, understanding of development, and participation in the program.
Be responsible for the arrangement, décor, and learning environment in the classroom, keeping in mind that the work done by the children should take precedence over decorations made by adults.
Provide and maintain an organized classroom and work environment.
Greet each child and parent personally upon arrival and oversee each child’s departure from the center.
Ensure student absences are reported.
Maintain specified hours and notify the Administrative Director of absence or late arrival.
Work with all other staff members in a cooperative manner and promote a good rapport among staff members.
Maintain professional conduct and attitudes and dress at all times while on duty. This includes working with parents and staff as well as visitors, county service providers, and the general public, always using the proper channels to air problems and complaints.
Model behavior, language, attitudes, courtesy, and interest from which the children learn.
Uses positive language.
Report to the Administrative Director any concerns regarding a student who may need additional support in the classroom (ie: behaviors, learning, social skills, developmental readiness, etc.).
Be responsible for reporting to the Administrative Director any equipment repairs or replacements needed, maintenance needed in the room or elsewhere in the center building, playground or campus area, and supplies that need to be reordered.
Conduct initial, mid-year, and end-of-year assessments.
Track child’s academic and developmental progress and maintain quarterly progress reports.
Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.
Participate in various special functions sponsored by ODLC or the Arc of Loudoun
Attend all staff meetings, take notes and be an active participant.
Check email in the morning and afternoon and maintain timely follow up.
Check the ODLC Admin Google Calendar in the morning and afternoon and be mindful of upcoming events.
Help with meals and preparation of snacks, and promote good nutrition.
Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene.
Run individualized ABA programming under the direct supervision of the Program Director.
Implement social skills curriculum and teach kindergarten enrichment social skills classroom.
