The Children’s Connection Associate provides a range of group therapy programming services and activities for children, youth and their families affected by incarceration. The Children’s Connection Associate is a part-time hourly position. Internships available. Personal Qualifications: Degree in social work, family therapy, counseling or other equivalent Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures and standards Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques Knowledge of community mental health resources Compassionate and accessible approach with youth Strong sense of discretion and professionalism Ability to work independently Specific Responsibilities: Promote and facilitate support groups for school-aged children who had or have had an incarcerated loved one. The support groups meet in elementary and middle schools throughout the school year during school hours. Identify red flags in group dynamics and strategize to address issues Act as a liaison between Family Connection and the Sioux Falls School District Provide information and make presentations about Children’s Connection to the school counselors and teachers Participate in Children’s Connection staff meetings, per counselor policies. Provide referrals to outside agencies for children and families needing additional assistance. Complete paperwork and reports in a timely manner Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements for mandatory reporting.
