Kantor & Company Salon in downtown Boulder is seeking a dynamic Stylist Assistant who is eager to learn from a team of experienced and creative stylists. Stylist Assistants, are licensed professionals or students in the professional industry. They are full-time workers that have a division of labor split. Stylist Assistants should be equally ready to roll their sleeves up and open to learning new techniques and skills from our team of stylists. The expectations for this role include:

Assistant Expectations:

1. The number one priority is to learn the ins and outs of the front desk. All employees of Kantor & Company know and understand how to take care of their clients in all ways. From intake to close. Making appointments and maximizing time on the schedule helps to understand the timing and expectations of all of our salon services. This helps to uphold the importance of keeping to time and working on maximizing their own efficiency. The duties of the front desk include:
a. Being warm and friendly to all humans, answering the phone, email and social media messages, responding to clients questions regarding scheduling, and making appointments. This role involves taking care of customer inquiries and challenges.
b. Cleaning! Be mindful that there are always cleaning tasks that need doing. Laundry, bathrooms (vanity, mirror, all toilet, sweep & mop, emptying the laundry), break room (washing “client” dishes, keeping color organized, wiping counter & sink, color bowls, brushes, and drying). Tearing foils, Etc. We ask that you consult with management when you finish your “time of day duties” (open, midday and close).
c. The goal for the stylist assistant is to juggle responsibilities until they feel confident bouncing back and forth. This helps the auxiliary to learn how to work their own timing on their schedule when they are able to take their own clients.

2. Once the stylist assistant has gotten acquainted with the desk and its responsibilities they are expected to assist stylists on the salon floor.
a. Their number one priority is to make the salon run smoothly.
b. Should anyone on the floor ask for an assistant to help, they are expected to help as long as they are available.
c. If they are scheduled to assist another stylist, we expect them to check in with them before assisting someone else. Overall our goal is to make sure the client feels cared for.

3. When the assistant has demonstrated competency in styling they will be expected to wash, tone and style following the stylist’s guide. It is at this point that the assistant will have the potential for larger tip outs and potential increase to the hourly wage. This is all depending on the level of service given to the clients and the stylist they are paired with.

Requirements

1. In pursuit or possession of your hairstyling license in the State of Colorado (if you haven’t started the process yet, that’s ok as long as it is in your plans).
a. Ask us about trades for education!
2. Desire and willingness to learn and work collaboratively as a critical part of the Kantor & Company team.
3. You must bring a positive attitude, add value to the team, and promote our culture.

Review Schedule:

In order to secure employment with Kantor & Company, you must adhere to said guidelines. Expect 15, 30, 60, and 90 day reviews to go over progress. If at any time during your probationary period as an auxiliary, the expectations of the job are not met, the assistant/auxiliary will be terminated. The assistant/auxiliary position is probationary up to the 90-day review.

Payment:

Unless the person has previous experience, the starting rate for this role is $15/hour + tips. Working diligently with a good attitude will earn you many tips. We have seen assistants/auxiliaries make $22/hour + tips because they were down to hustle… and more importantly…learn from their teammates. They are eligible to bank 10% commission toward an education fund, should they sell a minimum of $100 in retail in a given pay period.

On their educational and professional journey:

When the assistant is not paired with a senior stylist and have completed at least 1 section of the salons education program, they will have earned the ability to service a client under Kantor & Company’s standards. The assistant stylist will be paid as a stylist against their hourly rate. At that point, when the assistant is not paired with a stylist they are considered a stylist and will continue to follow their expectations listed above as they are able to between clients. Once they have completed more of their education plan, they will be considered part time stylists, they receive a 45% commission of all services and will no longer receive hourly wage unless their commission does not cover their hours worked at the agreed upon hourly rate.
