Rochester AmeriCorps is recruiting for the 2023-24 term of service

Rochester AmeriCorps is an education based AmeriCorps program currently recruiting for the 2023-24 term of service. Members accepted to our program will have the opportunity to gain practical experiences and skills, make money to help pay for college, and contribute to the health and vitality of our city. Rochester AmeriCorps is a program of Monroe Community College.

Members serve in Rochester-based educational settings addressing the learning loss that occurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Members engage in activities that support students’ academic success and their preparation for higher education and a career. Host sites include K-12 schools, pre-collegiate programs, and education focused community agencies and nonprofits. We work with each accepted member to match them to a host site that best fits their skills and interests.

Essential member activities vary from site to site and may include:
Tutoring and other academic supports and interventions, facilitating enrichment activities, providing college and career preparation services, contributing to school and community events, supporting student groups, and conducting outreach to parents and students of the Rochester community. Members will build meaningful relationships with students, staff, families, and fellow Rochester AmeriCorps members to contribute to a positive community.

Benefits of Service:
• Bi-weekly living allowance stipend of $833.33 (estimated, pre-tax)
• Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,895 upon completion of the program (1700 hours)
• Child care subsidy for qualifying dependents 12 and under – up to $269 / week
• National Service forbearance on qualified student loans
• Interest payment for loans placed into National Service Forbearance
• Service in AmeriCorps is considered “eligible employment” for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
• Individual health insurance
• Living allowance not taken into consideration when determining SNAP eligibility
• Specialized training, professional development, and networking opportunities

The program is full-time, 40 hours a week for 48 weeks, September 11, 2023 to August 11, 2024. We place an emphasis on member training and development to deepen members’ connection to and understanding of the Rochester community. The program will begin with an orientation and training at the MCC downtown campus and will convene monthly for Member Development Days to continue our professional development.
