Support a good cause and help people experiencing hunger get the healthy food they need. Fun, fast-paced organization serves 60,000 people a month needs caring, heart-centered, VISTAs who want to make a difference in the community and the lives of others by assisting people facing life challenges.
2. Enter your program description (2000 characters or less):
The ECP Food Bank is currently serving 60,000 people per month with 1.5 million pounds of food every month. It is the largest and most diverse independently owned and operated food bank in Pierce County with the largest delivery program. All food is provided free to anyone experiencing hunger and food scarcity. The food bank encompasses numerous services including onsite, delivery, food panty locations, two mobile food banks, and more.
3. What skills would you like potential members to possess? Ex: recruitment, team work, community organization, public speaking, etc.
The Harvest Summer VISTA member who works with this program should be a self-starter who is comfortable self-managing and taking initiative once initial training is provided. They should be comfortable interacting with others, representing the organization, and without judgment. We would prefer it if they had some level of experience working with the public and volunteers and have some DEI experience. They must be organized and detail oriented. Experience within a warehouse setting and with warehouse equipment is preferred. Also experience with data collection and outcome tracking tasks is also a plus.
4. What will your AmeriCorps member(s) do? (1000 characters or less, including space)?
The Harvest Summer VISTA member will be responsible for working with MADF’s Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank warehouse location to help with serving clients through home delivery, packaging food in client’s bags/boxes for delivery, rotating food, loading and unloading trucks, restocking shelves with food, cleaning, and other tasks. The member potentially will also be responsible for helping with collecting data for the program for reporting purposes.

The Harvest VISTA member will be serving in the nonprofit sector that addresses hunger and food scarcity.
Harvest Summer VISTA – Making A Difference Foundation for Tacoma, Pierce and South King County Area Gleaners
Service Description: Summer VISTAs who sign on to Making A Difference Foundation’s Eloise’s Cooking Pot Food Bank program, located in Tacoma, WA, will serve with the project for the summer term, working at the ECP Food Bank warehouse location to assist with the hold delivery program. VISTAs will help with loading and unloading trucks, rotating and restocking food, packaging food boxes to prepare for their delivery, and cleaning of the warehouse. This VISTA will coordinate the ECP Food Bank warehouse manager and work with other staff and volunteers to help prepare food boxes for home delivery to clients. They will also help with data collection for this program.
The mission of Making A Difference Foundation’s ECP Food Bank is to ensure people who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity have the healthy food they need to sustain their household. We work to provide caring service and never turn anyone in need away. MADF bridges a critical gap in the food system by providing hunger-relief programs across Pierce and South King Counties in Washington State with access to fresh, high-quality and culturally relevant food to those in need. Making A Difference’s Eloise’s Cooking Pot (ECP) Food Bank is the largest and most diverse independently owned and operated food bank in Pierce County with the largest delivery service. A key component of the work that we do is to raise awareness around the issues of food insecurity, as well as to continuously expand our outreach.
Member Duties : In Pierce and South King Counties, VISTA will work in the warehouse to prepare food for delivery and assist with warehouse duties.
