Sylvester Manor is seeking creative and organized counselors to join our growing Summer Youth Program. In this position, you will play a key role in shaping and educating the children by instructing them on numerous outdoor activities and experiences. You will also collaborate with other counselors, create recreational plans and activities, and lead campers in fun-filled projects.
This position entails working with children ages 3-7, interaction with parents/caregivers, collaboration, flexibility and communication. This position will report directly to the Summer Youth Program Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Guide, teach and engage with children during daily activities (arts, crafts, sports, games, music, etc.)
• Assist in organizing camp projects
• Supervise campers during snack time
• Instruct campers in daily routines and cleanup tasks
• Set up and ensure materials are secure and stored properly
• Enforce rules and regulations
• Ensure camper safety and monitor their activities
• Record daily attendance
• Participate in weekly meetings with the Summer Program Director to review success, challenges and plans for the upcoming week.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Encouraging to campers and patient when instructing
• Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor
• Comfortable in a team-player role
• Creative and innovative thinker and planner
Preferred but not required: Previous experience as a counselor-in-training, teacher, childcare, or related field
The Traditional Summer Youth Program is held Monday-Friday, for 8 weeks, starting June 26 and ending August 18. The hours of the program are 9:00 am - 12:30 pm and it is expected that this position will arrive at a time before the start of the program and finish after clean up at the end of the day, based on input from the Summer Youth Program Director. It is expected that this position will work approximately 20-25 hours per week. There is an opportunity for this position to work the Extended Day program, which runs from the end of the Traditional program (12:30pm) until 3:00pm. The Extended Day program is a supervised, unstructured afternoon of up to 10 children (ages 5-7 years old) per day.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Compensation: $15-$20/hour, based on experience
20% discount on pork and all farmstand products
Ferry reimbursement for counselors traveling from off-island locations
Sylvester Manor is a multi-faceted organization with public walking trails, farm-based educational initiatives, history and heritage programming, fundraising events, and other community events. Employees are encouraged to participate and there may be some occasions where extra hands are needed.
