DIRECT CARE STAFF Read Summary

SUMMARY:

To provide personal care and training to the consumer while maintaining the consumer’s health and safety. 

OPENINGS ARE:1 Openings in DAY HAB 7-3  1 Opening in Girls GROUP HOME 3P-11P and 1 Opening in BOYS GROUP HOME SAT/SUN 7A-11P Monday 11p-7a. BASIC SIGN LANGUAGE PREFERRED. 

HOURLY WAGE:  $14.00-$16.00 DEPENDING ON CAREGIVING EXPERIENCE

 

DIRECT CARE STAFF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following, however other duties may be assigned based on varying individual needs.

  • Direct personal assistance with activities of daily living (grooming, eating, bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene)
  • Teach and assist the consumer with their activities of daily living and /or education ensuring safety and follow Abuse Neglect, and Exploitation Policy
  • Always promote the independence and dignity of all consumer.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of consumers treatment plan. Assist in doctor’s visits.
  • Observe, document, and report any signs of illness or change in behavior to the nurse, case manager, and family member.
  • Understanding consumers’ rights and services.
  • Follow through with Team Leader’s instructions and activities.
  • Assist with meal planning and preparation, housekeeping, laundry
  • Securing and providing transportation
  • Assistance with medication and performance tasks delegated by a Registered Nurse.
  • Pass all Human Resource Training Required
  • Will provide more duties at Interview

Direct Care Staff Knowledge and skills:

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn American Sign Language
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in a crisis situation.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of people appropriately. NO Gossip Tolerated.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with a person receiving supports. Ability to transfer a person to and from a wheelchair.
  • Ability to learn HCS principles and SOH policies and procedures (Employee Handbook)Must have a good driving record, complete CPR within 90 days.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-3 years verifiable experience preferably caretaking in a residential, human service or group home setting.
  • Must possess and maintain a current state driver license, a good driving record, and be eligible for insurance coverage with SOH
  • High School Diploma or GED or pass a competency-based test
  • Must be able to pass background checks.

Working conditions:

Lifting and carrying up to 50lbs. repeated bending, , ability to write, count, read and write in English, ability to reason with all characteristics or the position. There will be work outside and inside the facilities, ability to operate a van. 

May assist with wheelchair transfer of non-ambulatory participants. May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases.
