Child care Assistant
Eagle Peak Montessori School is currently looking for an afterschool assistant for our Childcare program. We are located in Walnut Creek, CA.
This afterschool program offers a variety of free play and creative indoor and outdoor activities for students in 1st through 8th grades on weekdays from the close of school until 6:00 p.m. The student/teacher ratio is low; the staff and school community is close-knit and supportive.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person who enjoys supervising and interacting with elementary- and adolescent-aged children, and possess the ability to lead individual or small groups of children in activities that could include indoor games, arts & crafts and small building projects, as well as outdoor games and athletic activities. Ideally, a candidate will have experience with elementary-aged children.
Responsibilities:
● Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students
● Proactively engage and interact with students
● Lead indoor and outdoor games
● Help prepare snack for students
● Clearly and effectively communicate with faculty, students and parents when necessary
Qualifications:
● Ability to work independently and within a small team
● Ability to manage the behavior of groups of children of varying ages
● Ability to sit on the floor, squat, kneel, engage in light athletic activity,
and lift/manipulate up to 25 pounds
● Ability to spend time outdoors on blacktop and dirt/grass surfaces
● Ability to learn quickly and accept feedback
● Possess and model positive attitude, behaviors, and language
● Must pass criminal background check and TB test clearance
Reliability, punctuality, and a calm, emotionally mature approach to managing students are expected.
This is a part time position. Hours are approximately 2:50-6:00 p.m. M/T and Th/F; Wednesday hours are 1:30-6:00 (~19 hours per week total, with the opportunity for additional hours on occasion). In addition to the regular weekly schedule, Childcare staff may be expected to be available (from 1:00-6:00) during scheduled half-days on various days throughout the school year. While not required, additional hours supporting evening childcare during community meetings and events may also be available.
