Senior Instructor
Stemtree’s focus on science and engineering aligns with today’s nationwide emphasis on STEM education. Our goal is to nurture children’s inner scientist through fun, hands-on learning built upon a core scientific curriculum that will give them the edge they need to succeed in science and engineering - whether that means a better grade in class, a future science and engineering related career, or just having fun.
Stemtree of Lewis Center is now seeking a part-time, self-motivated, bright, and ambitious senior instructor looking to make a difference in the lives of our students. Great position for a stay-at-home parent looking for part-time work, teacher or substitute teacher looking for supplemental income, or college students majoring in STEM fields. We are seeking a senior instructor able to help us “fill in the gaps” for out-of-center programs, on-site programs, homeschool programs, and special events - we are more than willing to work with you on scheduling, and / or for a SAHP seeking to bring along a child or two to our programming.
Responsibilities:
Paid training provided - learn and follow the Stemtree method when assessing and teaching students
Assess students’ capabilities and create individualized instruction plans
Engage, assist, and support students to think originally and creatively as they execute on their learning plans
We don’t expect every instructor to be an expert in every possible STEM field - bring your creativity, flexibility, and enjoyment in watching children learn and engage.
Perform operational and administrative functions as assigned, e.g. printing lessons and updating student binders
Depending on scheduling hours, potentially opening the facility for all Stemtree services, preparing for the day’s sessions, and/or closing on business days
Senior Instructors may also supervise junior or assistant instructors while on site
Qualifications:
Passion for working with children, and a genuine interest in helping K-12 students learn science and engineering
Minimum 1 year related experience in education, child care, tutoring, or STEM studies
Strong interpersonal skills, and a high degree of comfort interacting with children, parents and instructors
Highly organized; ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments and projects.
Work independently
Flexible/adaptable to change
Currently pursuing or having achieved college degree in science, technology, engineering, coding, mathematics, or education, or equivalent experience
Experience supporting children on the spectrum a plus
Hours of operation:
Monday-Friday from 3 PM - 6 PM and Saturdays 10 AM - 2 PM
Occasional Monday-Friday 8 AM - 6 PM for day camps when schools are closed, i.e. during planned school holidays or for pop-up camps during Level 1 snow emergencies
Occasional availability Saturdays 2 PM - 8 PM for birthday parties
Pay will be based on education and experience, $12 - $19 / hour. Background check required.
BONUS: selected candidates may opt for a bonus system designed to reward quality of service, student enrollment and retention, or may enroll one K-12-aged child in the Stemtree program at no cost.
Stemtree’s mission is to bring basic science and engineering to life for kids while enhancing their critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Stemtree is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace.
