• Draft and proofread correspondence and legal documents such as pleadings, contracts, deposition notices, subpoenas, motions, briefs, and complaints.
• Drafting and organizing discovery requests and responses, including gathering documents from client, and determining which documents are applicable.
• Scheduling mediation or expert evaluations in family law, divorce, civil, and custody matters
• Contributing to trial preparation in litigation practices
• E-filing of documents with state courts (and federal courts, on occasion)
• Communicate with clients and witnesses to schedule meetings, hearings, interviews, and depositions
• Coordinate and schedule hearings and prepare files for same without prompting or reminders
• Manage, organize, and maintain documents, files and exhibits in paper and electronic filing systems
• Provide general administrative assistance, such as maintaining the attorney's calendar.
Qualifications for Legal Assistant
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• Associate degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a Bachelor's degree preferred
• 1-5 years of experience as an administrative assistant (preferably in a law firm or in a corporate legal department), legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Possess a strong work ethic
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional demeanor
• Strong knowledge of WordPerfect, Word, Excel, and Outlook and Texas
E-File.
• Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and keep deadlines
• Must be proficient with electronic filing of pleadings and documents
• Salary dependent upon experience & qualifications
