Having spent the past year at an advertising department, typing dutifully and memorizing the features of my cubicle, I'd like a change.
I'm fairly confident that my strengths thus far lie in writing, watching Netflix, astute analysis of Mad Men, snarky but literate jokes about capitalism and a thunderous appreciation for cade mochas. This is not to say I'm not a hard worker; all my work references, including two at NPR--yeah--will attest to the industrious and cheerful, though dry, way that I knocked my assignments out of the park. In truth, I'd rather read the New Yorker than work, but I accomplish my work as if it were an issue of the New Yorker. Favorite magazine is Esquire, maybe Esquire UK.
So, if you are searching for a restless creative writer with a sharper sense of humor than Glee, feel free to email. Resume below.

Professional Experience
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. 11/2010-Present
Product Information Specialist: I use web-based applications to edit and write product descriptions for newspaper ads, newspaper inserts, in-store signs and online ads. I do some reporting with Excel to produce item lists, and use PCM (similar to Endeca). I also modify about a thousand product headers/week for e-commerce and SEO optimization. I attend meetings on behalf of my team and department, and set strategy for best business practices. Grammar, spelling and appropriate style are my focuses. I also liaison with internal divisions to get item information from vendors when it’s not stored in our databases.
National Public Radio 1/2010-8/2010
Production Assistant: I prepared an online contingency database of NPR’s flagship shows, storing backup programming on computer servers to be used in case of regular program interruption. I temped at “Talk of the Nation”—a live news talk show—booking news experts, pre-interviewing them, and writing copy for the show’s host. I transferred about 4,000 existing records on radio guests, contacts and experts into a new computer database. I also served as point of contact for staffing companies while NPR hired 6 technology consultants, scheduling the interviews, managing the flow of resumes to hiring managers and arranging for new workspaces and computers.
Communications Director: I promoted Intern Edition, a storytelling website produced three times a year entirely by NPR’s interns. Supervising 4 people, I assigned responsibility for our social media presence, internal company presence, universities and colleges presence, and pitched our work to web journalists and technology aficionados. This resulted in getting an article about IE in PBS’s MediaShift, tweets about IE from G4 TV’s Attack of the show, an in-depth interview of our graphics director by the National Press Photographers Association, and a mainpage feature about our content on Multimediashooter.com.
“Talk of the Nation” Intern: Assisted in the production of NPR’s live news talk program. I generated fresh story ideas, contacted and pre-interviewed subject experts, booked studios in and outside the United States, wrote intro copy for the show’s host, prepared audio clips for live playback, screened listener emails during the show, researched for other producers, and escorted guests to and from our studio. The dozens of segments I co-produced were heard by about 3 million daily listeners and seen at npr.org.
Carrboro Commons 1/2009-5/2009
Copy Editor: My role was to edit and design news packages for an online news magazine in Carrboro, N.C. Once the reporter had delivered the raw copy, I fact-checked and proofread, prepared a layout with Adobe InDesign and InCopy, wrote the headlines, subheds and photo captions, and prepared an alternate “text-only” version of the story for a blog version of the website.
WFAE 90.7 FM Charlotte 9/2009-11/2009
Radio News Intern: Duty was to write daily news spots about business in Charlotte. I received assignments from the news director, interviewed subject experts, extracted relevant audio clips from the conversation, and wrote the script. I edited audio using Adobe Audition, collected audio at various community events using Marantz equipment, and transcribed lengthy interviews for web presentation.
WCHL 1360 AM Chapel Hill-Carrboro 6/2008-8/2008
Radio News Intern: Primary responsibility was to write two daily news spots about hyper-local news. I would attend University and town meetings to interview top administrators, politicians and business chiefs, extract relevant audio clips from the conversation, and write the script. My spots were about 30 seconds long.
Other Experience
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 8/2008-5/2009
Resident Adviser: My role was to oversee about 40 students in a student living community of about 600 residents. I built relationships, encouraged my residents to be open and hospitable with one another, designed two monthly events for education and recreation, enforced alcohol and substance standards, was on-call for after-hours assistance, patrolled the community during campus special events, and designed monthly informational bulletin boards in the residence hall. Two of my residents became R.A.’s the next year.
10/2005-5/2008
Associate Justice: My duties were to review written notices of legal suit, hear oral arguments, deliberate with fellow justices as to violations of law or procedure, apply student case law and the student constitution, and write or co-write the opinions or dissents of the court. We dissolved the results of improperly conducted elections, nullified inappropriate legislation and clarified boundaries of power and action. I swore-in the Executive Branch and incoming session of Student Congress for 2008-2009, and served on the interview committee for the 2007 Cabinet of the Executive Branch.
8/2006-5/2008
Office Assistant: I provided customer service at two community offices in a student living community of about 700 residents. I managed keys when residents had lost or misplaced their sets, received and made a paper or electronic log of about 400 daily pieces of mail or packages, issued cleaning or recreation supplies to residents, recorded complaints about the facilities and grounds, issued work tickets to maintenance staff, and provided administrative support to student life professionals and resident advisers.
Tuesday Morning 6/2007-8/2007
Associate: My primary responsibilities were to unload the weekly tractor-trailer of new inventory, unpack about 2,000 weekly items, assemble furniture and merchandise, prepare items for store display, and stage carts of items sales staff to stock their assigned areas. I assisted in the annual store inventory by recording about 5,000 items in a paper-based database.
Target, Inc. 5/2006-8/2006
Guest Relations Team Member: I processed guest returns, exchanges and transactions, and appropriately sold Target’s credit card to guests. I followed protocols of fraud detection, visually inspected items to be returned or exchanged, and operated a computer system to match items to receipts or credit/debit cards. I prepared carts of items to be returned to the sales floor, and brought in carts from the parking lot. 5/2005-8/2005
Backroom Team Member: My job was to keep store inventory balanced with consumer demand. I followed tri-daily computer-monitored orders of items that needed to be moved from the backroom to the sales floor. I operated hydraulic lifts, and coordinated with 3 colleagues to manually prepare carts full of items, and took the items to their appropriate places in the store. I created impromptu orders when customer demand surpassed the computer’s inventory management.
