US FIRST is a national non-profit organization that was created 20 years ago to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
Washington FIRST Robotics (WFR) is the non-profit organization that delivers US FIRST programs in Washington State.
FIRST was founded by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway. He came up with the idea of challenging students to build robots and a series of competitions for teams that combines the elements of a sports event with a rock concert.
