EXPERIENCE

Montezuma Publishing — Copyright Associate 7/2010 — now
• Increased productivity by writing FileMaker scripts to automate everyday tasks like creating copyright bibliographies; improved accounting system by creating digital database of all publishers and royalties owed; cooperate with copyright team to procure reproduction permission for course materials; communicate with publishers and authors to arrange copyright agreements; perform data entry and accounting tasks on a daily basis; pay publishers royalties based on contract agreements.

Performance and Scene — Independent Researcher 2/11 — 12/11
• Studied with Dr. Rob Malouf to research topics in sentiment analysis, user classification and data mining to settle on a thesis topic; built an XML document comprised of 3000 users from a dating site; wrote code which read the corpus and returned a classifier which could classify a user’s scene (trendy, alternative, conservative, military to name a few) based on that user’s performance—what the user wrote in his self-description. Met with Dr. Douglas S. Bigham on a weekly basis to use social identity theory and discourse analysis to improve the accuracy of the user classification task and add to the user classification research; presented my research and findings at Lavendar Languages 19 and SDSU’s student research symposium in 2012.

Computational Linguistics Lab — Lab Assistant 1/11 — 6/2011
• Performed software updates; scheduled system backups; aided new users with lab questions; maintained web documentation on LINUX and Lab ; assisted Drs. Mark Gawron and Rob Malouf in backing up vast amounts of research data.

San Diego State University — Teacher 1/10 — 6/10
• Taught LING/RWS 253 Grammar and Usage for Writers; managed a class of 18; created weekly lesson plans to help students enhance written grammar; handled emails from students and other faculty.
