Education: I just finished my sophomore year at Carson-Newman College, and I am an elementary education major. I have already taken four education courses along with 50 hours of practicum at a local elementary school. In that practicum I worked in a third grade classroom and helped teach children math and spelling, as well as work one on one with ESL children in teaching them how to read. I also worked in an alternative school for children with disabilities this semester. Job History: I was Sunday school teacher to first and second graders while I was in junior high. I worked with them on Sunday mornings and we played games, sang songs, made arts and crafts, and then sat down for a lesson. I am currently involved in an organization called Young Life, which is an outreach to high school students. It’s a leadership position in which I have the opportunity to make relationships and connect with students just slightly younger than I. In this ministry I go to the high school when I have a break from classes, eat lunch with them, hang out before or after school, and go to their extracurricular activities. We also hold “club” every Monday night, which consists of singing fun songs, playing games, and reading a passage from the Bible and giving a message. I have also been on leadership teams for camps at my church Brentwood Baptist, while we went to England, North Carolina, and local areas. During my mission trip to England my team and I worked in a classroom teaching a religion class to children. My first job was at Sweet and Sassy, a salon and party place for children at which I worked for two years. I was a party coordinator, a duty in which I organized and ran parties for children ages three to twelve. I also worked in cake place serving cake. I stopped working there regularly because I left for college, but I still work there on breaks. Prior to my job at Sweet and Sassy I was a consistent nanny for Tom and Vicki Sanders. They have four children, ages 1, 3, 7 and 8. I met them through a Bible study at my church and babysat for them often. The summer of 2007 I worked at Vanderbilt for Camp Vandy at which I was a camp counselor. I played games, organized crafts, and went on field trips with children ages five to twelve. This past summer, summer 2008, I worked at the YMCA in the nursery with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. I also worked at a Nashville community center as a camp counselor for 31 kindergarteners, where I taught them swim lessons, music, and kept them entertained five days a week. While I am attending Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, I work at First United Methodist Church as a nursery worker every week. I consistently work with infants, toddlers, and four to five year olds.
