PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Recently, I was responsible for safety and security at Moosehaven. I served as Safety & Security Chief, managing 10 full time and 4 part time security officers. Moosehaven is a retirement community located in Orange Park, Florida. During my tenure, perimeter fencing and a 10 CCTV monitoring and recording system were established; a visitor log was implemented at the visitor gate, as well as a position to greet employees and vendors at a commercial gate. I wrote the SOP’s and conducted monthly safety meetings with other managers. I maintained records regarding safety hazards; corrections made, and conducted fire alarm drills as required by State regulations. I received very positive feedback regarding the many incident and personnel investigations I conducted during my tenure as Chief of Safety and Security.
I started my law enforcement career with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer in January 1974. I became a Police Officer in December 1976 (number 2 in class) and worked the downtown beats for 5 years. I was promoted to Sergeant in 1981 (number 3 on list) and worked in Patrol, Investigations, and the Media Relations / Police Information Office. I was promoted to Lieutenant in 1988 (number 1 on list) and worked in Patrol, Services, and Administrative Divisions. I was also a part time instructor at the Police Academy and served on the Hostage Negotiation & Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Teams. I served as President of the Fraternal Order of Police; and as Trustee for the Police and Fire Pension Fund. I was recertified as a Police Officer with the State of Florida in December 2003. During my 23 years with JSO, I received numerous department and citizen commendations.
I worked in Financial Services as a Retirement Planning Specialist for several years, licensed in Florida for all investment products. I have served as President of the Retired City Employees Association of the Consolidated City of Jacksonville and as President of the National Association of Retired Cops (NARC), Jacksonville Chapter. I have also served on the Finance Committee of the Morocco Shriners and am a member of the Ionic Lodge of Masons. I have experience as an instructor for Folkner Training and Associates in the Dale Carnegie Human Relations and Public Speaking Course.
