WORK EXPERIENCE
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: Kids Play Daycare.. Houston, TX August 2000-August 2005.
As assistant director I conducted center tours with potential parents and explained the daycare’s policies, procedures and curriculum. I handled all parent questions/concerns and facilitated parent teacher conferences. In addition, I supervised daycare teachers and monitored staff performance. Moreover, I coordinated staff meetings and trained teachers in daycare curriculum and expectations.
CLASSROOM TEACHER/KINDERGARTEN-FOURTH GRADE (ESL): Herod Elementary School. (HISD) Houston, TX. August 2005-Present.
My duties and responsibilities as a classroom teacher includes but are not limited to: teaching Kindergarten students in all subject areas; implementing classroom routines, literacy and math work stations; enhancing learning for LEP/ESL students through the use of Total Physical Response (TPR) techniques; using visual cues (labels, pictures, dictionaries, charts) to assist students with limited knowledge of spoken English; working with students in small group settings to enhance literacy skills such as phonics, phonetic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, rhyming, blending, and concepts of print; utilizing visuals and read alouds (charts, graphs, diagrams, lists) to model and implement rigorous or higher level thinking

and to group students based on reading levels; and partnering with other members of professional learning communities to serve on pre-referral and intervention teams for ESL, at-risk and special needs students that include severe ADHD, Dyslexia, Bipolar Disorder, Turrets Syndrome, Schizophrenia, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and Cerebral Palsy.

I also provided new teachers with strategies for implementing calendar math and word walls; setting up theme based literacy workstations that included buddy reading, write around the room, sand and water, library, discovery pocket charts, and writing word walls; using whole group instructions to create literacy blocks (phonics, phonetic awareness, concepts of print, News of the Day, Morning Message, Big Book Instruction, Read Aloud, Interactive Reading/Writing) using a balanced approach. I was also featured on an HISD ABRAZO video for new teachers demonstrating “the lesson cycle.”
