ACADEMIC PROJECTS

SmartKhoj – A text-based search engine, August 2010 – December 2010
The focus of this project is to implement text retrieval system for news and wiki documents. The project has 3 components: Text parser, Indexer and Retrieval System.
• Text parser: This component parses two different sets of documents, News (pure text contents) and Wiki documents (containing wiki-style markup text). The parser performs the tokenization, stop words elimination, stemming, creating of term dictionary, file dictionary and meta-file for Wiki documents.
• Indexer: The indexer is implemented to support VSM (Vector space model) for ranking and scoring documents. 2 types of indexes are implemented namely, Forward Index and Inverted Index. Forward index maps documents to the bags of terms found in the respective document. Inverted index maps the terms to respective postings list. In order to overcome the limitations of the main memory, K-way merge algorithm is used to perform external sorting.
• Retrieval system: This component implements scoring and ranking the documents using Vector space model of scoring. Uses Inverted index to score/rank documents. Also performs PageRank algorithm by analyzing the wiki-links.
Language: C++ STL (Standard Template Library)

Web Services enabled email system, 2006-2007
The goal was to expose the email services through Web Services that can be discovered and integrated with existing systems to provide intranet email system. The organizations would discover and register with our service; then they would create a domain name for their organization through our service.
Technologies: Microsoft .Net, Web services

SKILLS

● Languages/Technology: C/C++, Java, J2EE, SQL, WebSphere Application Server, Struts, Web services, HTML, XML
● Database: DB2, Oracle
● Tools: Rational Application Developer, Rational Software Architecture
● Operating systems: Windows XP, UNIX, Linux.
● Methodologies: Agile, Agile Plus, Design Patterns, Software Engineering

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

● IEEE member for the year 2005.
● Entrepreneur Cell member in the undergraduate.
● Member of TopCoder, CodeChef online programming community(http://www.topcoder.com/tc?module=MemberProfile&cr=22657349)
