Company Overview:
Startups. We are one, and we work closely with them. Jones-Dilworth, Inc. (JDI), based in Austin, TX, is best known as a boutique PR firm focused on early-stage technologies.
In truth, we do our work across the marketing spectrum. That means everything from design and development, product strategy, naming and branding, original market research and audience development, messaging and positioning, user acquisition and retention, advisory board development, venture capital fundraising, executive recruitment, business development, etc.
Our typical client is a startup with pedigree, focused on the tech industry and looking to bring some kind of non-trivial innovation to market. They usually lack an internal marketing function -- we’re it. This is why we’re so multi-disciplinary.
We have clients who fall out of this scope as well, but that’s usually because they started with us as a startup and have grown up and stayed with the firm throughout, and/or because they’re a bigger brand like Microsoft or Citibank that needs some innovation and/or spinout work and knows that we’re the people to call. Our clients are mostly based in Silicon Valley, but we also touch various corners of the country and globe including Austin, Raleigh, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, New Zealand, Japan, Amsterdam and New York.
Current and past examples include: Siri (acquired by Apple), Challengepost, Republic Wireless, Macmillan New Ventures, Trap.it, SRI International, the National Science Foundation, Klout, Beluga (acquired by Facebook), the Daily Dot, Forecast, Parsely, Livefyre, Liquidspace, iNetwork, Alfresco, Bottlenose, Viralheat, Venture for America, and many more (we hover around 30 current clients in total, typically).

Job Description:
JDI is currently branching out and looking for our first ever interns to join our intimate team of 13 plus 2 dogs for the Spring semester, and potentially beyond.
This role will put you at the center of American technology innovation and entrepreneurship, and will give you a hands-on education in business generally and marketing specifically. This is not a typical marketing/PR role, or company.
As an intern don’t expect Devil Wears Prada, only we know how we truly take our coffee. Do expect to roll up your sleeves and contribute meaningfully to the process of our day to day client management -- brainstorms, counsel and recommendation, branding and design, go-to-market strategy, and more. You have to be risk tolerant, unusually smart, and ambitious. You have to like having autonomy, and a mandate to execute. We’re scrappy, and we’re iterative, and you should be too.
At the baseline level of course, you’ll help manage and develop press lists, conduct research, draft press releases, foray into pitching media, intimately get to know the startup tech market, etc.
Skills and Qualifications:
• English, philosophy and history majors preferred. Business and marketing majors also very welcome.
• Strong writing and rhetoric is imperative. Technical writing a plus.
• First-person understanding of social media (it’s 2k11, we’re almost embarrassed to put this on here).
• Must have own personal laptop.
• Knowledge of tech a plus, interest in tech requisite, keen on startups even better.
• Knowledge of /interest in design, journalism, film + video, finance, venture capital a plus.
Brass tacks:
Our current need is for someone to be in the office 10+ hours/week and we’re open to discussing scheduling and workload. This is a (modestly) paid internship.
Culturally we are very progressive. No titles. Very encouraging of lifestyle design and career advancement. Opportunity to grow with a company that is on an upward trajectory, with a lot of ambition.
Where do we go from here?
